What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX is extremely versatile and can address a wide array of aesthetic and medical issues. BOTOX is made from a botulinum toxin that paralyzes muscle movement, which can create a more youthful appearance or nonsurgically treat muscle or nerve disorders. BOTOX is most often used cosmetically, but it can also be used to treat eye health concerns like strabismus (misalignment of the eyes), blepharospasm (eye twitching), epiphora (extreme and excessive tearing), and ptosis (drooping eyelids). Our team at West County Ophthalmology uses BOTOX to treat ocular conditions and improve the appearance of the eyes. If you are interested in learning how BOTOX can help you address your vision concerns, then contact one of our centers in Chesterfield or O'Fallon, MO.
How does BOTOX treatment work?
During a consultation, we will determine the ideal area to which the treatment should be administered and the amount needed. From there, BOTOX will be injected into the treatment area with a fine-gauge needle. You may experience some tenderness or swelling at the injection site. You should be free to return to your normal routine immediately after your BOTOX injection. If you experience more severe symptoms, such as an allergic reaction, please contact our office immediately. Results from your BOTOX treatment will typically last 3 – 4 months. BOTOX is not considered suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
A youthful look for your eyes
If you are interested in nonsurgical treatment options for improving the appearance of your eyes or treating an ocular condition, then BOTOX could be an ideal solution for you. BOTOX FAQ
What eye conditions can be treated with BOTOX?
BOTOX can help treat several eye conditions, including blepharospasm, which involves involuntary eyelid contractions, and strabismus, where the eyes are misaligned.
Can BOTOX affect my vision?
BOTOX can potentially affect vision if it spreads beyond the injection site, leading to temporary side effects such as blurred vision or drooping eyelids. However, these effects are generally short-lived and resolve as the medication wears off. This is why it's important to visit a trained and experienced practice like West County Ophthalmology.
How many BOTOX treatments are needed for eye twitching?
The number of BOTOX treatments needed for eye twitching can vary depending on the severity of the condition and individual response to the treatment. Typically, patients may require injections every three to four months to maintain relief from symptoms.
